“Wines of South Africa” City Tour

During the month of May, SOUTH AFRICAN PREMIUM WINES and other top producers and importers presented their best wines and recent vintages in an exciting series of wine tastings in New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, Orange County and Los Angeles. The South African wine category is growing in excess of 50% in the US market, and industry experts predict that it will be the most exciting category over the next decade.

Most of the tastings were independently organized by the generic marketing council of South African wine while the Orange County event happened in partnership with High-Time Wine Cellars, a leading independent retailer.

Cape Wine 2006

Cape Wine 06 was a definite success for Matuba.  Our two booths – one featuring Matuba, and the other Jabulani – were extremely popular, and visited by new and existing customers alike.

The general feedback and comments received from the International and domestic trade on both the quality of our wine and strong image of our  brands was extremely pleasing!

It was a very positive experience being part of a well-organised fair showing the best South Africa has to offer.  We look forward to Cape Wine 2008!

PROWEIN, DÜSSELDORF 2006

“The company also exhibited Matuba and Jabulani at Prowein in Düsseldorf, Germany, where both ranges met with an excellent reception.  The quality, strong branding of Matuba, and unique square bottle of the Matuba Vineyards Specific range, again confirmed that we are on the right track with this brand.

The Jabulani screw-cap packaging to be launched shortly in several EU markets seems to a be a winner, and we expect good sales results from both ranges!”

Business Group and leading wine cellars join forces with first Matuba label

A new South African wine label, aimed at the local and international market, was launched in Paarl on 14 June. The brand, called Matuba, is the result of a co-operation agreement between five leading Western Cape wine cellars and a group of local entrepreneurs who have invested in this new wine venture.

Mr Johann Pieterse, a Western Cape businessman, who was involved in Pepkor and Teljoy, is the chairman of the company. He stressed that the company wanted to position Matuba as a quality wine label.

"Quality, superb local and international distribution and consistent supply - these are the intrinsic traits of the Matuba label," he said.

"Market research has shown that there is definitely a niche for a South African brand that can market top quality wine from the Cape Coastal region locally and internationally, as premium quality, with new blends and styles.
