Europe gets Jabulani’s new “Seal of Approval”

Sweden and Norway will be the first European recipients of the Jabulani range featuring the Stelvin Screw-Cap Closure.

Although screw-caps are often equated with cheap wines, and lack that romantically authentic feel, there is a growing shift in perception internationally, due to their proven benefits over natural or synthetic cork closures. Simply put, Stelvin closures eliminate oxidation, and, to cap it all, offer consistent ageing, while maintaining flavour and freshness!

According to SAPW, as part of a proactive consumer awareness campaign to generate excitement during what is regarded as a “slow part of the year” , a diverse range of successful tastings was held at trade and consumer shows in Washington D.C. , Florida and Georgia .

The Washington D.C. International Wine & Food Festival is reputedly one of the events to at which to “see and be seen!” Over 280 domestic and International wineries boasted their finest vintages, and more than 12 000 visitors from 30 states had the chance to taste Jabulani and Matuba wines!

In Fort Lauderdale , SAPW invited Florida Distributor Southern Wine and Spirits, along with the trade and public, to enjoy Jabulani wines, and experience their first taste of Matuba, at an informal gathering.

The wines were paired with various South African specialities, including nuts, cheeses – not to mention Biltong - for a truly traditional flavour!

This popular show, co-hosted by Southern Wine and Spirits and SYSCO Food Services, took place on July 26^th at the American Airlines Arena in Miami . It was very well organised and gave us a wonderful opportunity to showcase Jabulani to the top on-consumption trade.

With over 1000 retailers, wholesalers and suppliers present, the GFIA is one of the state’s most important trade shows. This multifaceted event provided an ideal platform for North East Sales Distributing (a major Sponsor) to showcase our Jabulani range, while networking with the trade.

Golfer wins R15 000 in SANAG Tournament Sunday 16th July saw Simola Golf Club host the first South African Non Amateur Golf Tournament in the Southern Cape, and what a day it was! Danie Steyn, on a 17 handicap, became the first SANAG golfer in South Africa to take home more than R5000 in cash! Shooting 36 points, he won the Matuba Open by 1 point over Ernst van Jaarsveld, followed by Nico Louw on 34 points.

Bladet Tromsø is a daily newspaper published in Tromsø, Norway by Bladet-Tromsø A/S. The wine writers Nils Opsahl and Knut Barman-Jensen rated the JABULANI bag-in-the-box 5/6 and 6/6 according to their “dice” rating system. JABULANI is now widely available in this form of packaging in Norway.

During the month of May, SOUTH AFRICAN PREMIUM WINES and other top producers and importers presented their best wines and recent vintages in an exciting series of wine tastings in New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, Orange County and Los Angeles. The South African wine category is growing in excess of 50% in the US market, and industry experts predict that it will be the most exciting category over the next decade.

Most of the tastings were independently organized by the generic marketing council of South African wine while the Orange County event happened in partnership with High-Time Wine Cellars, a leading independent retailer.
