A new South African wine label, aimed at the local and international market, was launched in Paarl on 14 June. The brand, called Matuba, is the result of a co-operation agreement between five leading Western Cape wine cellars and a group of local entrepreneurs who have invested in this new wine venture.
Mr Johann Pieterse, a Western Cape businessman, who was involved in Pepkor and Teljoy, is the chairman of the company. He stressed that the company wanted to position Matuba as a quality wine label.

"Quality, superb local and international distribution and consistent supply - these are the intrinsic traits of the Matuba label," he said.
"Market research has shown that there is definitely a niche for a South African brand that can market top quality wine from the Cape Coastal region locally and internationally, as premium quality, with new blends and styles.
